please excuse my showing off:

(it looks even better now, these are old)

All of that is more productive and uses less resource than vista "aero". (and came out more then a year or so earlier, and is open source.)

The desktop background was aquired at http://www.endeffect.com/. They've got over 100 different desktops to choose from for most screen resolutions. You should check it out!
