How to install Linux on a xbox (aka softmod)

Post by Gizza »

Here is a tutorial written by me Gizza on how to softmod your xbox. Changing the software on your xbox IS DANGEROUS. I have no responsibility if anyone breaks there xbox from not following this right. There are 2 other games can be used but im going to do Splinter Cell ORIGINAL. This is basically installing a Modchip EXCEPT installing new software which will allow it to play burned games.

What you will need:
Software
- SID 5.0 Installer (http://www.xbox-hq.com)
- SID 5.0 Splinter Cell files (http://www.xbox-hq.com)
- Datel Action Replay Program.
- Dashboard Version 1.00.5960.00

Quick tutorial on how to get latest dashboard
1. Simply put in a game with xbox live in such as Halo 2 without Ethernet Cable in and go to Xbox live part and it should update.
SIMPLE!

Hardware
- DATEL Action Replay or a XBOX memory stick that can be connected to computer
- A unmodded xbox. (version 1.6)
- SPLINTER CELL ORIGINAL CANNOT BE PLATNIUM!

1. Plug in your Action Replay.
2. Load up Datel Action Replay Program and Drag the LINUX Files into the Memory Apartment as shown Below

3. Take out the memory and put it in the xbox.
4. Go to Memory in the Dashboard then load copy the Splinter Cell and LINUX file over to your xbox.
5. Load up Splinter Cell in your xbox then load Profile "Linux" then go to "Check Points"
6. Go to the Backup/Restore Features and back up the following:
Create Eeprom Backup
Create MS Backup
Create C Backup
7. Then go to "Install Dual Boot Softmod" then follow through til it comes up with a menu saying "Evolution X or Unleash X" Your pick i Usually pick Unleash X
8. Wait for it to install then when it says you now can turn off your xbox, turn off your xbox then turn the xbox on with no CD and it should have a new dashboard.
9. DONE!
This new dashboard can do alot of things such as Save games to your HDD, Play burned games, Access your xbox via FTP. You name it.

Thanks!
