Halo 2 definitely has the advantage over Halo mostly because it came out 5 years after the first. Halo 2 was not a disappointment IMO, it was basically the same game as before with slight changes to the gameplay (like the dual wielding and the lack of a health bar)
philwill30 I'm pretty sure no one was "deceived" Regarding the guns taking up more room, 5 years after Halo 1 Bungie assumed (rightfully I might add) that more people have bigscreen HDTVs. There's not really much difference in the gun sizes anyway and the HUD in Halo 2 is a lot less cluttered. I don't really know how you can say the multiplayer aspect was better in Halo 1 except for maybe the fact that Halo 1 had slightly better maps (and Bungie will release new maps for H2 soon) Halo 2 has more vehicles enabled in multiplayer and it's online
Halo was considered the best console shooter because it was the only one that managed to get a good control scheme up and running (good for a console FPS anyway; keyboard and mouse still offers much more precision :P) In terms of ALL FPSes though Halo is not nearly as good as Half-Life/CS etc. Case in point; play Halo CE side by side with the original Half-Life and you'll realize that once the advantage controlwise is taken away Halo isn't as godly as people say it is. The sales for Halo CE prove that.
Was Halo 2 overhyped? Yes, but it delivered admirably in spite of this. The hype didn't make people like the game more. On the contrary it got so many people's expectations up so high, they were disappointed when it turned out not to be the perfect game. If people had hyped Halo as much as they did its sequel they would have been quick to point out the many problems with the original as well (including the fact that the certain levels in the game look like Bungie just made the same rooms and hallways repeat 30 times)
Saying Halo 1 is "better" than Halo 2 or whatnot is sort of ridiculous. Everyone likes to say that Doom 3 is a disappointment and that Doom was a better game or the original Metal Gear Solid was the best game in the series but after you play D3 or MGS3....well only a liar would say that the original played better. In context they may have been more groundbreaking etc etc but yeah I played about 5 minutes of the original Doom when they announced Doom 3 and I got bored and got a headache real fast. Same deal with Halo. Only time I play Halo 1 now is to do Assault on the Control Room which IMO is the best stage of either game
Anyways long story short, people will tell you that Halo 1 was more **** than Halo 2 and they're right but that doesn't mean it's a better game. With release dates 5 years apart it'd be strange if it was
