Photoshop 7.0 and CS is excellent for graphic design but expand your horizons and try others like GIMP, Paint Shop Pro, and CorelDRAW.

I've tried Gimp and PaintShop Pro and I found them to be less than satisfying when it comes to design. Niether program can hold a candle to PhotoShop. CorelDraw I hear is a pretty good program, I have yet to try that one out to see if I like it our not. But I think I'll probably stick with PhotoShop...

There are no suh thing as "Best Program" in design..
Most of the programs have some benifits, and its how good you are at using them that really matters...
Adobe and Macromedia is the leading 2d deign developers, and Maya IS infact the most advanced and most popular 3d program

yeah i totally agre...currently no programs can beat PHOTSHOP when it comes to photo design or any sort of 2d design....this is because it had many built in functions: the filters, actions. with this it makes designer life much easier...lol
by some chance i manage to get a sneak preview of photoshop CS 2......it roxs.....although there are only some modification and addons to CS 1...but its enough ...
furthermore with photoshop u can create ur custom actions and stuff like that....bottomline i think nothing can beat PHOTOshop so far....in 2D DESIGN...

PhotoShop? Well it is one that is widely used and probably the one best of its time. Lots of tutorials but not for the beginner graphic designer.
