I've been working on and off on an online RPG using AIM. I wrote a perl script to connect to the AIM server and handle the technical commands, and I'm using a C++ program to control the AI (I like C++ more, but I didn't feel like trying to figure out how to get AIM connectivity XD). My program is a bot, essentially a referee for the matches. It keeps track of player stats and whose turn it is and all that good stuff. I haven't gotten very far, but as of now you can register a character and view/increase your stats/skills.
