How much RAM do you have? And how much do you really need to assign to the guest operating system?

I have 512MB Ram. I assign all my guest operating systems 128MB RAM. I have had two virtual machines running at the same time, with a couple of other programs working and my computer can cope with it.

I usually have only one virtual machine open at a time and I can use my computer normally. Unless you have less than 512Mb ram you shouldn't have a problem. Most computers come with at least 1Gb ram now, which is way above what you would need to run this. Alternatively, run a smaller guest operating system which doesn't need so much RAM.

I have used it so much since I found it. The only problem is that I just discovered there are two other products to try: Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2, and VMWare. I now need a way to test for the fastest and then I'll ditch the others!

If anyone has any good ideas for benchmarking do let me know.

I do like the Microsoft answer, but it is not without problems. It seems very slow with certain tasks, but a lot more realistic on others. (See the need for a decent benchmark?)
