Automatic Administrator Login

Post by stephin »

Well here's the trick which you can use to prove that Windows XP is not at all secure as multi-user operating system. Hacking the system registry from any account having access to system registry puts you in to the administrator account.
REGEDIT 4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
"AutoAdminLogon"="1"

If somebody is serious enough about security of the coputer, then why in the first case will he allow access to registry by any other account except the administrator?

Stole the words right out of my mouth.

<sarcasm>Oh wait...I'm going to go right now and allow my Guest account to have access to the registry editor. There is nothing that he can do in there.</sarcasm>

Non-Admins don't need registry editor access and never should get it.

I agree entirely, that's the whole point of limited accounts. The only registry access aloud in those is programs that write to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\<COMPANY>\<SOFTWARE>
