USB sound glitches anyone?

Post by mburnz »

I have a new alesis multimix8usb and it has uncovered a problem with the windows xp usb audeo codec drivers on my dell inspiron 8500. No matter what program I use; sound recorder, audacity, or the bundled cubase LE, I get annoying glitches in the sound being transferred from the usb device to the laptop. The asio-mme driver that comes with cubase actually crashes because of these glitches. According to process explorer my cpu loading is not a problem. Everthing works fine on my friends Dell inspiron 510m.

Does any one know of any tweaks to the usb subsysten that might help?
I'v tried the 'background process' tweak that xp provides.

TIA

mike

Update: I've found http://www.mark-knutson.com/t3/index.html
and his pci bus latency tweaking tool. I now have my monitor pci latency
down from 255 to 96. It didn't cure me problem .. the crackle continues

Hmm seems you are all happy with the performance of your USB subsystems. I was looking in the bios setup of said laptop and found a couple of options that were to do with supporting driverless usb i/o after boot time.
I switched these off and my usb audio glitches have gone. So there.
