I dont think you can backup updates, the need to be exacuted threw windows updater and it wont accept them off your HD or disk or whatever. Whats the problem with redownloading them? MS will mail you a copy of SP2 on a disk, the rest are small and easy to download. Ghost is a option but not a soluti...

I ran into the same situation, school pc's were firewalled to hell and I need to change the htaccess file to lockout a clients site, found that this site did the trick.

I recall reading about a device that allowed you to shove conventional ram into it, and then it pluged into a pci slot, and also connected via IDE. It fooled the pc into thinking it was a conventional HD but it was like a zillion times faster, and a heck of allot cheeper if you have the ram allready

3d accelerator is a buzzword for a graphics card. Any card today will do 3d, I reccomend nvidia.

I have 4 hitachi's and had them fail 6 times, and 7 this past week. That means that the replacement RMA have also failed, I dont think I have one original drive out of these piles of crap. After the warranties expire on these I am going to look into WD raptors or a nice segate. Fujitsu suck too :)

They both get the job done, I happen to like nvida better. I am not certain but if you get a nvidia I dont think you want the xfx, I think that is the're crappy low budget line of cards.

Well, I don't know how bad the disk is scratched, but it should buff out if you buy one of the cd repair kits, as for the cdrom drive, that's a field replaceable unit, and its not cost effective to try and repair it.
