How to: Protect and secure your Computer

Post by iBye »

There is alot of viruses and shit out there, but how can we protect ourself from it?

The best way is to have a Firewall and a Virusprogram installed on your Computer, which is the best one? Well, the quality is pretty much the same but the programs are very diffrent.

The biggest anti-virus programs out there atm are:

Norton : http://www.symantec.com/index.htm
Mcafee : http://www.mcafee.com
Trendmicro : http://www.trendmicro.com
Panda antivirus: http://www.pandasoftware.com

There are probably more.

Most of the new anti-virus programs also contain an inbuilt Firewall, so it's 2in1.

But what if it's no Firewall in your? Dont worry, there is single Firewall programs too.

Most of the programs cost money, but there is always a trail on the program, like 30 days or so.

There is also free Anti-virus programs and Firewalls.

Grisoft : http://www.grisoft.com | Anti-virus and Firewall
Avast: http://www.avast.com
Nod32: http://www.nod32.com

Firewalls:

Zonealarm : http://www.zonelabs.com

There is alot more but these is the programs i've tested. And they all work great.

What about other viruses, like keyloggers etc?

There are programs for that too, some of the big Anti-virus has a extra Spyware remover.

Ad-Aware : http://www.lavasoft.com | A really good program for Spyware
SpyBoy-S&D : http://www.spybot.info

If i got a anti-virus and a firewall, am i safe then?

No, you can never be safe from viruses and spyware. But you have a bigger chance not to get infected with Anti-virus and a Firewall installed.

What can i do if i have a anti-virus and firewall and i'm still not sure

There is many online scans out there, usefull when you have doubts about your safety.

Trendmicro: http://housecall.trendmicro.com
Panda: http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/ActiveScan.htm
Bitdefender: http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html
Kaspersky: http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
Ewido: http://www.ewido.net/en/onlinescan/
Avast: http://www.ewido.net/en/onlinescan/

They are all free, some of them take money if you want to delete viruses if found, but Trendmicro and Bitdefender is free all the way.

A good way to protect yourself from hackers is to get you a router with an inbuilt firewall.

There are many ways to secure yourself from threats, and you can never have to much security around you.

Good luck.
