Various versions of html? Didn't you write this same post for sql? Anyway, html has ever grown, the most commonly used today is html 4.0. Before html 4.0 some of the other versions did not let you put images on each page. It did not let you do bthe stuff you can do today. XHTML is what people call the "new" html. Its basically xml and html mixed (I think). You have to close all tags, meaning things like images you end with /> instead of >
