transparent backgrounds?

Post by pooplematic »

how do i create images which have transparent backgrounds. let me clarify. lets say i start with a 400 x 400 pixel image with a tranparent background. now lets say i draw a simple black box in the center. it seems when i save the file it automatically inserts a white background. wtf? how do i get around this?

Here I am under my thinking tree, where so many free thoughts occur to me, but I notice mine's the only tree around. Because Prez said free thinking aint allowed.

when you save something
1) it must be a gif
2) have "Transperancy" in the save window (probably) set to your background color

what prog are you using?

Yea, it has to be a .gif because formats like .jpg don't support transparency ... If you are using photoshop then try:

File > Save For Web :D

Export it as a .gif only, you don't need the HTML version.

That should work  If not, tell me and i'll help you some more.

Either save it as a .gif or .png.
But while .png offers better quality, it wont be transparent in IE.

What program, in photoshop, either take down the opacity, or change the blend mode(screen)

Or another way is, put the thing that you want to be shown under it. Then save it in jpg format. I always do it like that.
Thanks :)
