Post by Stam »

Some tips that should help your website at least function and appeal to people. Once you've your site built get friends and people you know just to test it nothing worse than an error filled page being on the Internet users won't come back lads.

1. Know who your target audience is and design accordingly

.Will your viewers be potential customers, looking for technical information or
are they the general public and then write to the level of your target audience

.Publish your own newsletter

.Focused informational content, especially on the home page - this is where
you make your first impression - make sure it is a good one!

------------------------------------------------------------------

2. Be Sure The Design Is Attractive

.Good use of color

.Tactful use of graphics

.Readable, consistent fonts

.Presented in an organized format that is easy on the eyes

.Consistent functions linked with particular activities (selection buttons,
secondary links selections etc)

.Consistent layout and page links on all pages. This breeds familiarity for the
viewer and eases navigation. It also presents you as an organized,
professional individual.

.Break up text with bullets and graphics

------------------------------------------------------------------

3. Make Certain the Site Layout is Organized

.Rank menu options by priority of your business service

.Keep the number of menu options to 7; develop sub menus if needed

.One theme or content material per page (i.e. no long run-ons)

.Make the Contact page last on your list. Viewers will have to scan down your
menu options to get to it and who knows what will peak their interest along
the way. Include name, address, phone, fax, and email address.

------------------------------------------------------------------

4. Offer value-added material to give viewers a reason to return

.Articles, newsletter, tips, links to complimentary sites, links to related books,
journals etc

------------------------------------------------------------------

5. Spell-check your site!
