people visit your site when searching in, say google
i guess your site is about funny pictures
so i suggest you to include meta tags in your head section
like this:
<meta name='keywords' content='fun, funny, funny pics, funny pictures, funny images, etc' />
so you'll get visitors when they enter any of these keywords in the search engine

Their are many ways to promote ur web site like just u had added ur sign as ur site name.It is also one of the ways to invite the visitors.

Another ways are taking part in many web site like this forum.
