I've got 256Mb and that's generally enough for me, even running WinXP.
But I think I'm going to have to double it because my wife likes to have MS Outlook, MS Office (usually Word or Excel), Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Opera (with a dozen or so tabs open) all running at once, and she says the machine can get really slooooooow sometimes.
