Where does MySQL get money?!

Post by barnes »

So I downloaded MySQL to use on a test server, and they called me the next day asking if the install went OK. I was shocked, but more very impressed. I mean, its a free download, and some how they can afford a customer service like that?

So, any ideas of how they make the money? (This was an obvious American women, so they don't have some cheap labor in India.)

They make money off corporate customer support. I've never been contacted before.

Like all other open source projects, MySQL probably isn't meant to be profitable, but I sure think people donate to them and they must offer some paid services as well.

Code: Select all

define('I_LOVE_PHP', true);
