Adding More Service To your webhosting

Post by darko »

hi shadmin, i was wondering that maybe you can add asp.net hosting to your services, you won't have to make windows webhosting or something like, all you have to do, is install the appache asp.net module, and your client will be able to work with asp, i think this would make a great feature, for more info on how to do that, here's a couple of links:

the module
http://archive.apache.org/dist/httpd/mo ... -2.0.0.msi
how to install it
http://weblogs.asp.net/israelio/archive ... 24852.aspx
and how to add the deature to cpanel

P.S; i didn't post this thread, until i tested it myself, on my computer

Good suggestion, had been in my mind since long.

Seems to be that you have done quite a bit of investigation into it. However, it is still not supported on the linux platform (that means, it is possible to run asp.net on apache web server environment, however, if anything goes wrong, there wont be any guaranteed support to rectify it or to again remove it). And untill that is not in place, it is not advisable to install it on a production server as that of smokyhosts.com

I will check it out first on my own private server, and then lookup into the possiblity of installing it on the smokyhosts.com servers

yeah you're right, i didn't test it on linux, only on windows xp, but i think it's gona work fine on linux, since they don't specify to witch OS it's designed. And the truth is i was looking for something like this for some time now, i'm starting to take asp.net lessons, and i ain't that good with iis, and as for being able to delete it if doesn't work you can, or at least i can on my windows, cause all you have to to installit is unpack the package and add a couple lines to it.
Anyways it's up to you wether you wanna do it or not, i like php, and SH offers that, so i'm quite contempt with it

Since this mod is for apache web server and apache web server is platform independent, practically speaking, one can possibly install it on a linux server. However right now smokyhosts.com server is being used as a webhosting server, I cant afford to make anything wrong because currently it is catering the needs of thousands of websites.

As and when it is 100% tested, i myself will begin to offer it as a additional feature.
