Will Web Browsers Replace 'Office Applications'?

There's a lot of work being done on developing web applications that could replace standard 'office applications' like word processors (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), presentation builders (Power Point) and more. Here are a few examples: Writely.com - it's a word processor, it's in beta, and it's free...

Would You Buy a US$200 Laptop?

I've been interested in low-cost computing for a long time, specifically projects geared towards developing countries. One project working on this idea is called One Laptop Per Child, which is trying to develop a laptop that could be built and sold to governments in developing countries for around $...

How Insane Are You?

You can find out by taking the H. P. Lovecraft Historical Society's SaniTest™ at: http://www.cthulhulives.org/SanQuiz/SaniTest2.nclk If you're not familiar with the works of H.P. Lovecraft, some of the questions might not make much sense, but just pick an answer and keep going. My results were: Your...

I've got 256Mb and that's generally enough for me, even running WinXP. But I think I'm going to have to double it because my wife likes to have MS Outlook, MS Office (usually Word or Excel), Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Opera (with a dozen or so tabs open) all running at once, and she says the machin...

I've installed and played around with Mambo, Drupal, PHPNuke and a couple of others, and I never really found any of them to be all that easy to set up, or all that useful.

Are any of them really worth the effort of getting them all set up?

Cheers,

That's really cool!

I love optical illusions! I've been fascinated by them ever since I was a kid.

Thanks for sharing that one.

I'm using Norton Anti-Virus right now, but my subscription has expired so I'm no longer receiving updates. Plus I think it's slowing down my computer a lot , so I'm thinking of switching to something else. I may even go with one of the free ones - I was using AVG before and I was happy with it, so I...

Hard to believe, isn't it? I've been through a lot of tropical storms and a couple of Cat 1 and Cat 2 hurricanes, but I've never been through anything like Katrina, Andrew, or some of the other recent devastating hurricanes. And don't forget the people in Texas and Louisiana who've just gone through...

What exactly would people need with a 1 Tb email account? Not for email, I assume? I mean, I get hundreds of emails a day and I don't anywhere near that much storage. My primary Gmail account has around 5Mb of email stored. My primary business email account, where I really do need to save a lot of e...
