why not try centos 5, a free version based on redhat enterprise version linux server 5, far more stable and far more accomplished than Fedora?
I have used centos 5 for half an year, and very happy with its compatibility, stability.

I have used a amd based PC for 4 years and switch to a core 2 based laptop recently. Frankly speaking, amd's performance is not as better as amd prescribed in the model name such as xp 2200+, 2800+. I prefer for xp, and maybe will never update to vista, even though vista release its sp1. because I don't have enough money to buy a vista PC, vista needs so much system resources.

the free version of avast is personal version, and it could be only used for a period of 1 year. I have tried its latest version. performance is good except that avast slow down the system significantly.
